Few weeks ago, smarty flat ass pointed out to me that it seems like my life is not balanced because I don't know many people in my field LOL. I've been thinking how can not knowing many people in my field be an indication of unbalanced life. I have lots of friends from many walks of life and they taught me things outside of my expertise. One that fascinated me most is food technology LOL
It is very important to have life outside work or else we will be living to work instead of working to live. These days work has been undeniably demanding and I have a long list of things and projects until the end of the year. I can't even find time for travel! It can be depressing when I start to realize I have no long holiday to look forward to in the coming months but I'm trying to enjoy my free time as much as possible while trying to complete all these tasks. And that includes cooking!
I tried this one during Ramadhan. Yup! During the long Keamatan holiday hehe I was craving but was too lazy to break fast outside as I hate to rush for prayers after that. So, I decided to try this myself and was surprised that the recipe is actually easy peasy!
Ingredients:
1. Squid
2. All purpose flour
3. Black pepper powder
4. Salted Eggs
5. Butter
6. Chilies.. (I used Thai chili since cili padi is too hot for me)
7. Curry leaves
1. First, wash and cut your squids... It was the HUGE squid season. I really hate cleaning them because you'll find those things they've eaten inside their bodies. I screamed in horror when I saw dead anchovies and shrimps that evening hahaha
2. Prepare the other ingredients.. Boil the salted eggs. Once cooked, cool it off and take out the yolks. I also took out some white parts to make it colourful lol. Then, cut the chilies. I picked both red and green chilies to make it colourful hahaha
3. Mix the all purpose flour with black pepper powder. The above pic was before I mix them together.
4. I dipped the squids into beaten eggs before coating them with the flour
5. Fry the squids in preheated oil until they become brownish like in the picture. Do not fry HUGE squids for too long because it will become hard. Use your womanly instinct to guess when it is about right to remove them from the frying pan hahaha Cool them off for a while before we work on the dressing
6. Now the salted egg dressing. Melt the butter inside a frying pan. When it starts to bubble, put in the chilies and the salted egg yolks. Mix them evenly and finally put in the curry leaves. When the curry leaves start to become dry, that's when you put in the fried squids in and stir them until it becomes a uniformed mix.
TADAAAAA!
So that's how it will look like. This was my first attempt. I didn't cool the fried squid enough before I made the dressing so the flour came off a little bit. My cousin requested this again a few days later so I improvised. My family loved it so yeah this is a delicious and easy recipe to try (^^)
Maybe I should schedule trying a new recipe at least once a month hurmmmm......
